When is The Best Time to Visit Ferragudo?
The best time to visit Ferragudo is during the spring (April to June) or fall (September to October). This is when the weather is mild and there are fewer tourists. You may also find some lower prices on accomodations and activities.
How to Get to Ferragudo, Portugal
Ferragudo is located in the Lagoa region of the Algarve. The nearest airport to Ferragudo is Faro International Airport, which is located about 50 kilometers away.
If you don’t have a rental car in the Algarve, you can reach Ferragudo by private transfer, taxi, bus, or a combination of train and water taxi.

How to Get Around Ferragudo
Ferragudo is a very walkable town, so you can easily get around on foot. However, if you need a ride, Bolt is the local rideshare app they use here.

Picturesque Old Town
The traditional streets of Ferragudo are a sight to behold. As you wander around town, you won’t be able to stop taking photos of the many photogenic, whitewashed houses covered with flowers.
Visit the main square, Praça Rainha Dona Leonor, where you’ll find many restaurants, shops, and cafes. In the evening, the square comes alive with music and dancing. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a night out with friends at whichever bar or club suits your taste.
Beautiful Beaches
Ferragudo may be situated on the mouth of the River Arade, but it’s lined with beautiful, sand beaches. Praia da Angrinha and Praia Grande are two of the most popular beaches in Ferragudo. They are both sandy beaches with clear water. Praia da Angrinha is a smaller beach that is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Praia Grande is a larger beach that is perfect for surfing and swimming.
If you want to explore some of the hidden grottoes along the Portuguese coast, head to Praia do Pintadinho or Praia dos Caneiros. The beach at Praia do Molhe is not as nice as the others, but it’s fun to walk along the stone wall and watch all of the fisherman.
Historical Landmarks
Nothing is more magical than a beachfront castle built into the rock. Castelo de São João do Arade is a 16th-century castle that sits between Praia da Angrinha and Praia Grande. You definitely want to add this spot to your Ferragudo itinerary.
